Typed letter signed with reference to Porgy and Bess New York: 18 September 1934. A one-page letter on Gershwin's 132 East 72nd Street stationery, signed in ink "George Gershwin." Visible area 7 x 6 inches. Framed with a portrait. Usual folds, the signature dark and bold, not examined out of frame.

Gershwin here writes to R.B. Marriott in London reporting that he would love to visit but "I am afraid I cannot do so this year as I am hard at work on a serious opera which is expected to be produced next February," a reference to Porgy and Bess.
