The scrolled hood above white-painted and polychrome floral dial lettered with maker's name, waist with arched thumbmolded drawer, all on a cutout base.
Works replaced with brass Seth Thomas regulator movement which is screwed to the backboard and in four places to the dial. Old surface, shrinkage split to base, dial with repaired crack and associated retouch and drilled for winding holes.
There are small pinholes in the uprights on which the original seatboard sat.

BOSTON, MA – Competitive bidding drove strong prices at Doyle's Boston Collects auction on February 9, 2024, sending the sale total over expectations. Held in Doyle's Boston gallery and livestreamed on Doyle.com, Boston Collects offered an exciting array of artwork, furniture, silver, Americana, folk art and jewelry from collections and estates in the New England area and beyond.
Highlighting the sale was a handsome leaping stag weathervane that achieved $12,800, far over its $5,000-8,000 estimate. Crafted from molded sheet copper and zinc, the late 19th century weathervane had a pleasingly weathered gilt surface. The rare form of a majestic leaping stag further heightened its appeal, as opposed to the more commonly found forms of horses, roosters, cows and other farm animals.
