MUIR, JOHN [edited by] LINNIE MARSH WOLFE. John of the Mountains. The Unpublished Journals of John Muir. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1938. First edition, signed by the author's daughter, Wanda Muir Hanna, and the book's editor, Linnie Marsh Wolfe, on the front free endpaper, with a manuscript leaf from John Muir's journal laid in. Publisher's cloth, dust jacket. 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches (21.25 x 14 cm); xxii, [2], 459 pp., frontispiece and plates after photographs. Light wear, jacket with light rubbing, spotting, and fading, small edge chips and tears, some pale spotting to endpapers and first and last few leaves, a few leaves unopened, gift inscription dated 1938 on front free endpaper.

One of the few copies of John Muir's posthumously published journals to include a manuscript leaf from the journal, as well as the autographs of his daughter and the book's editor. This leaf contains an elegant passage by the author, where he encounters a waterfall on the San Joaquin River, perhaps Rainbow Falls.
