A charming emblem book on quadrupeds, both real and fantastical, compiled by the renowned botanist, Joachim Camerarius. This is the second of a four-part series of emblem books on natural subjects by him, the others depicting ornithological and botanical subjects. He owned and cultivated a large garden of rare plants in Nuremberg, some of which he supplied to travelling merchants; in 1588 he published a catalogue of these, the Hortus Medicus.
