NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle will present an auction of 20th Century Abstraction on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 11am. The sale showcases abstract art spanning the 1940s through the end of the century and will include paintings, drawings, sculpture and prints. From the American Abstract Expressionists, as well as several prototypical artists that predated them, the auction documents the global evolution of abstraction within and beyond the fabled New York School; including Color Field artists, hard-edge abstraction, CoBrA Group and much more.

Contemporary textile artist Sheila Hicks (b. 1934) is celebrated for weaving and sculptural installations that challenge the boundaries between fine art and craft. Born in Nebraska, she studied under Josef Albers at Yale, and later, pre-Columbian textile techniques in South America. “Textile is a universal language. In all of the cultures of the world, textile is a crucial and essential component,” Hicks has said. She is represented in the sale by Copper Road, a work in silk, copper and synthetic fiber (est. $5,000-7,000).
