NEW YORK, NY -- Jewelry auctioned at Doyle has seen outstanding results throughout the season! The strong performance of Doyle’s jewelry sales highlights the continued strength of the jewelry market, driven in part by ever-growing competition from private collectors at all levels of value. This exciting trend was particularly evident at the April 28-30, 2025 auctions of Important Jewelry, Fine Jewelry and Jewely Online, where the combined total topped an impressive $8 million.
Diamonds
Diamond prices were exceptionally strong, led by an important diamond ring from the Estate of a Florida Collector. Attracting intense competition, the ring far surpassed its estimate of $350,000-550,000 to achieve an impressive $749,800. Purchased by a private collector, the ring featured a dazzling diamond weighing 15.23 carats, E color, VVS2 clarity.
From the Estate of a Distinguished New York Lady was a stunning platinum and diamond pendant-necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels that sold for $203,700, doubling its estimate of $80,000-120,000. Also attracting attention was a bi-color 'Toi et Moi' ring set with two diamonds side by side, one a Fancy Intense Orange-Yellow diamond, that more than doubled its $30,000-50,000 estimate, selling for $133,850. The wide selection of diamonds on offer realized outstanding results at all price points, underscoring the continuing depth of market demand.
Colored Stones
Jewelry set with sapphires and emeralds also performed far over expectations. A Ceylon sapphire and diamond ring weighing 19.35 carats from the Family Estate of actor Kent Taylor more than doubled its $50,000-70,000 estimate, selling for $152,900. Property of a Seattle and Rancho Mirage Lady featured a Bulgari ring set with a Colombian emerald of 2.32 carats of exceptional quality and no clarity enhancement that achieved a remarkable $108,450, many times its $20,000-30,000 estimate.
Louis Comfort Tiffany
A highlight of the sale was an exquisite circa 1907-1914 pendant necklace by Louis Comfort Tiffany that flew past its $30,000-50,000 estimate to a stunning $254,500. Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of Tiffany & Co. founder Charles Lewis Tiffany, was an acclaimed designer of lamps and decorative arts, as well as a painter and a jewelry designer. In this masterful necklace with its naturalistic grapevine design, he incorporated star sapphires and moonstones, whose translucent quality is reminiscent of the Favrile glass he created for Tiffany Studios.
