NEW YORK, NY -- Paddles were wagging at Doyle's auction of Sporting Art & Dogs in Art® on February 10, 2026 as the total raced past expectations in a White Glove Sale -- every lot sold! Collectors, canine enthusiasts and sports fans were hot on the chase for paintings, drawings and prints celebrating dogs, horses and the thrill of the sporting field.

The top dog of the sale was Le Chien, a charming pencil drawing by Bernard Buffet (French, 1928-1999) from 1996 that achieved $14,080, well over its $7,000-9,000 estimate. The drawing was inscribed as a Christmas gift to Paul Bajade, the chef and truffle specialist behind the acclaimed restaurant Les Chênes Verts, located near Buffet’s estate, Domaine de la Baume, in Tourtour, Provence.

From the Collection of a Pug Lover was William Henry Hamilton Trood’s (British, 1860-1899) portrait of Zoe, (A Pug) from 1882 that realized $12,800, more that tripling its estimate of $3,000-4,000. One of the most admired canine painters of the late Victorian era, Trood was renowned for his highly detailed and affectionate portrayals of dogs.
