This painting was examined by Inness authority Michael Quick, who plans to include it in the supplement to his book George Inness: A Catalogue Raisonne (2007).
He has dated Landscape (Landscape with a Pond) to roughly 1866-69, based upon the composition as well as the technique employed. We thank Dr. Quick for his kind assistance in authenticating and documenting this work.

Wax lined, flattened craquelure. Selectively cleaned varnish; area around the signature is untouched. Area of inpaint approximately 1 x 2 inches in sky above trees at left with a possible corresponding vertical tear at the upper edge. Sky in upper right quadrant may be scrubbed; associated inpaint/glazes in that area.
