Autograph letter signed discussing photographs of the moon. Collingwood: 20 November 1862. A four-page autograph letter on a bifolium signed "J.W. Herschel." The letter is addressed to an unknown recipient. It discusses the appearance of certain photographs by Dr. Dorsan exhibited at the Royal Astronomical Society, including two photographs purporting to show "the edge of the moon." Fine overall.
An interesting letter from Herschel, known for both his contributions to astronomy and the development of photography. In the letter, he remarks on a discrepancy between photographs that he saw at the Royal Astronomical Society and those appearing in a printed work by Dorsan.
