Period blind-stamped pigskin decorated with rolls in blind, with two fore-edge clasps. 6 5/8 x 4 1/8 inches (17 x 10.5 cm); [xvi], 516 pp. woodcuts. The binding toned, light wear. Lacking pages 67, 68, 295-298 i.e. 3 ff. and six woodcuts, minor foxing and soiling. Early ownership mark on the lower edge of the text block of Giovanni Iacomo Ferrari, bookseller's label of Leo Olschki.
A herbal that received heavy use, this is frequently found defective as here. The woodcuts in the small Basel edition are especially fine, and this is in a charming period binding with an identifiable Italian provenance.
