Dodsley, and others, 1777-1824. 66 volumes, numbered 1-65 to LXV (one year, 1792, bound in two volumes), and with an index volume covering 1758-80, mixed editions. Speckled calf, gilt decorated spines, red and black leather spine labels, edges sprinkled red. 8 x 5 inches (20 x 12 cm). Rubbing and wear to spines and extremities, a few chipped spine ends and cracking joints and hinges, the contents with occasional spotting and toning, the set is sold as is.
This is an attractively bound set of The Annual Register, which provided readers with an annual overview of the year's history, politics, and literature. This is considered the first English version in book form (though in a later edition here) of the Declaration of Independence which appears in a section headed Reasons assigned by the Continental Congress, for the North-American Colonies and Provinces withdrawing their Allegiance to the King of Great-Britain. It is followed by the Articles of Confederation, headed Articles of Confederation and perpetual Union between the States of New-Hampshire, Massachusetts-Bay, Rhode-Island, Connecticut, New-York, Pennsylvania, the Counties of Newcastle, Kent, and Sussex, on Delaware-River, Maryland, Virginia, North-Carolina, South-Carolina, Georgia.
