The elegant Rickaby edition of Hudibras

BUTLER, SAMUEL

Hudibras. with Notes on Hudibras. London: T. Rickaby for Benjamin and John Wright, 1793. [One of about 200 copies, according to Lowndes], although apparently only about half of these have the Hogarth plates]. Three volumes, well bound in period straight-grain morocco, though without ticket, marbled endpapers. 11 1/2 x 9 inches (29 x 22.5 cm); engraved vignette titles in sepia, 2 portraits and 12 double-page plates by William Hogarth, a few also folding, other engraved vignettes and illustrations. Light wear, the spines a bit darkened, a very handsome set overall.
