God Save the Queen inscribed by Sid Vicious!

SEX PISTOLS

God Save the Queen inscribed by Sid Vicious. Original 1977 Virgin Records 7-inch printed sleeve for God Save The Queen by the Sex Pistols, the cover inscribed in marker "Sid Vicious / Bollocks!" and with a small goatee and necklace drawn onto the Queen. The record is present in the sleeve; housed in a fitted plexiglass frame. Some minor handling wear, mostly to verso.

A rare original 7-inch single of the Sex Pistols' "God Save the Queen," one of the most scandalous songs in punk history, which was released in May 1977 in advance of the only album issued by the band, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols. Despite being banned by the BBC, the song went to number 1 on the New Music Express and to number 2 only on the UK Singles Chart, but some say this was rigged to keep the song out of the top spot. Originally titled "No Future," the lyrics of the song equated the reign of Queen Elizabeth to a "fascist regime." The album's artwork was also controversial and banned for its effacing of the Queen's image. The single is enhanced by the signature of Sid Vicious, one of the rarest in punk history. We trace other examples of this sleeve signed by Vicious, but none with the added goatee!

Please note that this lot was reportedly sold originally by John McWhinnie (d. 2012) at Glenn Horowitz Rare Books, but unfortunately, no papers or receipts accompany the item.
