Attributed to Gino Cenedese, second half 20th century
Each in transparent amethyst and colorless glass, the bowl decorated with a bearded merman with a trident, sea dragon, and hippocampus, on a ribbed and knopped stem, internally decorated with gold foil inclusions, ending in a circular foot, decorated with a gilt seaweed band, unmarked, comprising:
Seventeen water (or wine) glasses, height 9 1/2 inches
Eighteen champagne flutes, height 9 1/2 inches
Fourteen champagne coupes, height 7 1/8 inches

each glass appears to be in excellent, undamaged condition; no condition issues were observed, such as upper rim or foot rim chips, hairline cracks to the bowls, etc.; no repairs to stems were observed; the gilt decoration is pretty much intact; each glass stands nice and straight; there is some variation to some of the heights, not because of heights being reduced but because of the making (hand-made/one-at-a-time); pontil marks appear on the underside of the feet (typical of hand-blown pieces) and they also appear on the interior side of the bowls, in the making (mentioned for sake of accuracy); a very attractive and masterfully made set

For decades, Thayer’s whimsical, handcrafted lettuce ware has epitomized Palm Beach style, attracting such devoted admirers as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, C.Z. Guest, Bunny Mellon and Brooke Astor. This remarkable collection was from the Estate of Lois Wideman of Palm Beach, whose distinguished career spanned modeling with the Ford Agency in New York to interior design with the celebrated Palm Beach firms Jessup, Inc. and Kemble Interiors.
