[GEORGIA - HUMOR]
GAULT, JOSEPH. Reports of Decisions in Justice's Courts in the State of Georgia, from the year of Our Lord 1820 to 1846. Marietta: 1846. First edition. 20th century cloth. 7 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches (19 x 11.5 cm); 48 pp. The title stamped and with an ink numeral to the upper margin which has bled through to the first leaves, pale foxing and toned leaves, some thumbsoiling.
A very rare work by an early Southern lawyer and humorist. Joseph Gault was an early settler in Cobb County and was practicing law there by 1836. The humorous sketches in this work stem from his time in Cobb County's small Justice of the Peace Court and this work is largely known only from mention in the later editions published by Gault in his lifetime. A scarce volume, we trace only the University of Georgia copy.
