Sheet is taped into mat along the edges on the reverse, with brown paper tape. Collaged elements are comprised of an envelope and a receipt, and all are adhered to a support sheet. Some older cellophane tape was used on the surface of the work, and that tape has yellowed. Found collage elements show wear commensurate with the work. Elements appear stable and intact, with no apparent losses or damage beyond the inherent original wear to the found elements.

Auction: 20th Century Abstraction / Latin American Art, Sep 24, 2024
NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle's auction of 20th Century Abstraction on September 24, 2024 showcased abstract art spanning the 1940s through the end of the century and included paintings, drawings, sculpture and prints. From the American Abstract Expressionists, as well as several prototypical artists that predated them, the auction documented the global evolution of abstraction within and beyond the fabled New York School; including Color Field artists, hard-edge abstraction, CoBrA Group and much more.
John Hoyland
Highlights included a work from 1970 by British artist John Hoyland (1934-2011) titled 12.2.70 that achieved $35,200, far exceeding its $10,000-15,000 estimate. Known for his vibrant use of color and dynamic compositions, Hoyland emerged in the 1960s to become a leading figure in the UK’s abstract movement, blending influences from American color field painting with his own unique vision.
