This sculpture was created by Sidney Kingsley for Martha Graham's opening performance of Clytemnestra. The premiere of this performance was held on April 1, 1958 at the Adelphi Theater in New York. On October 14, 1976 the sculpture was displayed at a White House dinner at which President Gerald R. Ford presented Martha Graham with the Medal of Freedom.
