DAVENANT, CHARLES
Discourses on the Publick Revenues and on the Trade of England
. London: James Knapton, 1698. Two volumes, 20th century cloth, the copies slightly different in size. [16], 279, [1], 62, [2] pp.; [12], 434, 64 pp., with four folding charts (three in the first part, one in the second), and the half title and terminal ad leaf in the first volume. Some binding wear, some toning and minor stains, Bar Association stamps, other minor defects. Though not uniform in size (common for this work), the volumes have a common early provenance, one "R.H." who has stated the price paid for each part.
An interesting work on economics, an early examination of the concept of balance of trade with some American interest for the portions on the East Indies. Sold with a copy of the same author's An Essay upon the Ways and Means of Supplying the War, London: 1695, second edition, and A Discourse of Grants and Resumptions... London: 1700, second edition. The first work is Goldsmiths' Library 3523; Kress 2074; Sabin 18686; ESTC R9868. The lot 4 volumes.
