Late 17th Century,
the rectangular upper case with molded cornice encloses two large panelled doors inlaid with various fruitwoods depicting geometric starbursts, floral medaillons and stylized foliate scrolls, supported on a stand with frieze inlaid with star motifs over barley twist legs joined by a shaped stretcher.
Height 83 1/2 inches (21 cm), width 70 inches (178 cm), depth 23 3/4 inches (60.5 cm).
Provenance: property of a distinguished lady from Connecticut
Related literature: Annigje Hofstede, Nederlandse Meubelen van Barok tot Biedermeier 1700-1830, Zwolle 2004, ill. 30, p. 33, illustrates and discusses an almost identical socalled " Zeeuws Sterrenkabinet".
