DOYLE held the highly successful auction Color & Light: The Collection of Dr. Thomas Chua. With international competitive bidding, the Collection totaled $435,111, more than doubling the pre-sale estimate of $124,150-184,650, with an exceptional sell-through rate 98%. A prosperous and admired medical doctor in Chicago, Dr. Chua quietly assembled his extraordinary collection over the course of three decades. With a discerning eye for quality and the curiosity of a true connoisseur, he was drawn to the colorful and innovative works in glass inspired by natural forms created during the Art Nouveau era. The collection was rich with fine examples of French art glass by such prominent makers as Daum, Gallé, Majorelle and Gabriel Argy-Rousseau, as well as a selection of pieces by American makers Handel, Pairpoint and Tiffany Studios.
Dr. Chua's collection extended beyond the glass collection, sold throughout various DOYLE sales including Fine Art and Jewelry auctions, totaling to $1.05M for the entirety of the collection, well beyond the total estimate of $531,750-833,925.
