Notable Pennsylvania Collections & Estates at Doyle
Property of a Main Line Philadelphia Lady featured a large Chinese Famille Rose porcelain vase known as a tianqiuping, or Celestial Sphere vase. Bearing the Qianlong Seal Mark and of the Period (1736–1795), this exceptionally rare vase achieved $504,000.
Highlighting Property from a Collection on Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, was a dazzling platinum and diamond necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels totaling 34.75 carats and centering a sparkling 2.09 carat, D color diamond that realized $125,000.
The landmark sale of The Christine Biddle Wainwright Collection offered over 100 lots descended in the prominent Biddle family of Philadelphia. Highlights included autograph documents from Benjamin Franklin and John Hancock, a portrait by Thomas Sully, Federal silver memorial vases by Fletcher & Gardiner, and a rare 1759 Pennsylvania map that sold for a stunning $88,200.
From the Collection of Helen Murray Sipala of Chadds Ford were portraits of Helen and her husband, George, by Andrew Wyeth, a neighbor and close confidant for over 20 years. Also featured was a fascinating archive of correspondence from the artist spanning 1989–2009.
