NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held a successful auction of English & Continental Silver on May 20, 2025 showcasing fine examples of English, Irish, German, Austrian, French and Italian silver by prominent makers of the 18th through 20th centuries.
Trans-Atlantic competition drove an impressive Victorian sterling silver punch bowl created by Hunt & Roskell in 1877 to an exceptional $35,200, many times its $6,000-8,000 estimate. Granted the Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria, the London firm traced its roots to the celebrated silversmith Paul Storr, who opened his workshop in 1819, eventually becoming Hunt & Roskell in 1843. Their display at the historic 1851 Great Exhibition in London’s Crystal Palace drew widespread acclaim, followed by successful exhibitions in New York in 1853 and Paris in 1867.
