NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle will auction Picasso Ceramics on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 11am, as a special section of the Prints & Multiples sale. Featured in the sale are iconic plates, vases, pitchers and more from the Glenn and Gayle Balmuth Collection.
Inspired by the work of Georges and Suzanne Ramié at their Madoura factory in the South of France in 1946, Picasso developed an enduring passion for the medium. This new creative pursuit resulted in more than 3,000 objects, as he transformed pottery into playful and imaginative works featuring bold shapes, faces, animals and patterns.
The Glenn and Gayle Balmuth Collection
Doyle is honored to present The Glenn and Gayle Balmuth Collection of Picasso Ceramics as a featured section of the October 20 sale. The Balmuths' collecting journey began with a gift in 1983—a pitcher purchased at the Madoura workshop in the late 1950s by a family member. A few years later, Glenn and Gayle Balmuth began building their own collection, sharing a passion for Picasso ceramics that would continue for decades.
