NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle’s auction of the Collection of Interior Designer Anne Eisenhower drew spirited bidding and outstanding results for furniture, decorations and artwork. Featured as a highlight of the October 28 Doyle at Home sale, the collection reflected the refined eye, timeless taste, and spirited elegance of one of America’s most admired interior designers and philanthropists.

Named to Architectural Digest’s prestigious AD100 in 1990, Anne Eisenhower (1949–2022) built her design reputation on a philosophy she once described as “traditional, but for today’s living: comfortable, with a ‘lived-in’ look; uncluttered without appearing austere.” Her interiors exuded both glamour and approachability, blending classical structure with modern ease. Known for her quiet confidence and gracious spirit, Anne approached every project with the same understated sophistication that defined her own home.

Educated at the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and the New York School of Interior Design, where she later served on the board, Anne began her professional career in the 1970s with the legendary designer Dorothy Draper, whose bold, elegant style helped shape Anne’s early sensibilities. In 1981, she founded her own firm specializing in high-end residential design for clients throughout the United States and abroad. Her work appeared widely in design publications and was featured in Chris Casson Madden’s Rooms with a View: Two Decades of Outstanding American Interior Design (1993) and Steven Stolman’s 40 Years of Fabulous: The Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse (2014). The Kips Bay Showhouse became a regular showcase for Anne’s work and a testament to her artistry and high regard within the design community.

Beyond her professional achievements, Anne was a member of one of America’s most distinguished families. The granddaughter of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States and Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe during World War II, and First Lady Mamie Doud Eisenhower, Anne was born in West Point, New York, in 1949 to military historian John Eisenhower and Barbara Thompson Eisenhower. She spent part of her childhood in the White House and grew up surrounded by history and diplomacy, meeting world leaders such as Charles de Gaulle, Winston Churchill, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Nikita Khrushchev. Yet, despite her illustrious lineage, Anne was known for her humility, warmth, and grace.

A devoted philanthropist, Anne gave generously of her time and talents. She served for twenty-five years on the board of Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education and supported numerous organizations, including the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Gettysburg Foundation, and the Eisenhower Memorial in Washington, D.C. She also took a leading role in preserving her family’s legacy through the Eisenhower Fellowships and related causes.
Dividing her time between her Park Avenue apartment and Keewaydin, her beloved Southampton retreat, Anne was celebrated as both an accomplished designer and a woman of grace, creativity and compassion. As former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg fondly remarked, she was “a friend and a great New Yorker.”

Her collection, much like her life, embodied a harmony of elegance, authenticity and heart — a fitting tribute to Anne Eisenhower’s enduring legacy.
